I began working with children 31 years ago. Throughout my career in education, I taught grades 3rd- 8th. I worked for Lutheran Special Education Ministries providing special education services to elementary and middle school students. This led to my position in VAST Academy at Houston Community College where I was the lead instructor for 10 years providing vocational and skills training for students with Autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities. For the past 3 years, I have been the Director of Student Achievement for Launch Academy (a middle and high school for students with Autism) in Sugarland. I am also a mom of three; a 25 year-old son and 20 year-old B/G twins. My twin son is on the Autism spectrum. Since his diagnosis, I have made it my life goal to educate the public on neurodiversity and to help these students to integrate, feel accepted and be successful in society. Ruth also provides social skills services in the individual and group settings.
